Duke started out by playing piano when he was seven years old. He was inspired by Van Morrison, Pearl Jam, and The Band and he used his mother’s vintage guitar to teach himself to play guitar. He went to high school at Philadelphia’s St. Joseph’s Prep. Duke soon started performing in coffee houses around Philadelphia. In 2004, Duke recorded his first demo, which ended up in the hands of Marcy Rauer Wagman who is the head of Drexel University's Music Industry Program as well as MAD Dragon Records. MAD Dragon Records released four of Duke's song on a singer-songwriter compilation entitled XYX. All four of Duke’s songs from XYX were added at XM Satellite Radio’s “The Loft” and were some the most requested for six weeks. Matt Duke's success helped MAD Dragon Records get national distribution via Ryko Distribution. In late 2005, Duke went into the studio to record his debut LP, Winter Child. It was released on September 12, 2006 on MAD Dragon Records. Matt will be releasing his next record "Kingdom Underground" on Rykodisc/MAD Dragon Records on September 23th, 2008.
