曾经在90年中期至2000年初期，于全球歌坛呼风唤雨的Post-Grunge乐团Creed，在缔造全球超过5000万销售后，瞩目焦点的主唱Scott Stapp因个人因素于2004年离团，其馀团员包括：主奏吉他手Mark Tremonti、贝斯手Brian Marshall和鼓手Scott Phillips，找来前另类摇滚The Mayfield Four主唱Myles Kennedy，共同组成Alter Bridge，曲风更为深沉，虽然有著最拿手的Post-Grunge为基调，仍不时加入硬式摇滚、金属等气魄，跳脱昔日Creed的框架，走出属于Alter Bridge的风格，并陆续送上3张告示牌流行榜Top20的专辑！
Alter Bridge在2004年推出首张大碟“One Day Remain”，便空降告示牌流行榜第五名，连续两支单曲挤进主流摇滚榜前十强，更甚主唱的单飞成绩！2010年转加盟Roadrunner Records问市第三张作品“AB III”，不仅创下全美摇滚榜冠军，在英国也拿到摇滚榜冠军+流行榜第9名，主打「Isolation」闯出热门主流摇滚电台点播榜7週冠军！
虽然Creed在2009年重新复出，Alter Bridge各团员也忙于其他外务，不仅主唱Myles受邀与Slash共同巡演、吉他手Mark发行个人专辑“All I Was”、鼓手Scott则和他的另翼乐团Projected录製新作，2013年初，所有团员还是归队积极筹备新碟，找来先前合作愉快的Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Limp Bizkit、Iggy Pop、Stone Temple Pilots)再度全权操盘，相隔三年的“Fortress”终告问市！打从开场的Acoustic吉他牵引「Cry Of Achilles」现形，一路经过12首歌洗礼到同名曲末「Fortress」，拥抱Alter Bridge最精彩的演出，不仅抓住现代另类摇滚的节奏，更紧扣硬摇风格的旋律，同时献上历年来最重元素的「Bleed It Dry」和「Farther Than The Sun」，释放狂野不羁的一面；不过，标准的抒情摇滚曲式「All Ends Well」，足以轻易攻破你的心防；还有那鼓譟吉他笼罩的「Addicted To Pain」，成为第一波引起排行骚动的主打歌！
Fortress is the upcoming fourth studio album by the rock band Alter Bridge, set to be released by Roadrunner Records on September 30, 2013. Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who produced Alter Bridges previous two albums, Blackbird and AB III, returns as producer.
Fortress was recorded between April 26 and July 2, 2013. The album was written over the last three years while the band toured, as well as during Alter Bridges hiatus due to singer Myles Kennedy touring with Slash, guitarist Mark Tremonti releasing his debut solo album All I Was, and drummer Scott Phillips recording with his band Projected.
Later in the month, on July 25, Tremonti announced the band had approved cover art and mastered the new album.
In July, in an interview with MusicRadar.com Tremonti revealed that he will sing lead vocals on one track called "The Waters Rise", which appears on the album as "Waters Rising".
On July 28, 2013, Alter Bridge announced via their social network pages that the official track listing and cover art for Fortress would be revealed the following week on July 31, 2013. As promised, on July 31 the band unveiled the cover art along with the track listing, consisting of 12 songs. The artwork was designed by Dan Tremonti.
