Released one year after the band's beefed-up sophomore album, the Hell or High Water EP scales things back. Gone are the stacks of polished harmonies and studio-enhanced guitars, and in their place are seven tracks that emphasize fast, rambunctious emo-pop. These songs aren’t as fastidiously groomed for radio airplay as the previous album, but they’re certainly more believable, and returning fans will be happy to hear the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus find their footing again. The Hell or High Water EP is the second EP and first EP of new studio material by American alternative rock band The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, released on August 24, 2010. It is the band's first release since the departure from Virgin Records and it was self-released by the band.
The EP's sound is a departure from the band's latest effort Lonely Road and its sound of polished harmonies and studio-enhanced guitars, replacing them with fast and aggressive emo/hardcore sound, in the vein of the band's first album Don't You Fake It.
A music video for the first single "Choke" was released on August 25, 2010, with following videos for "Don't Hate" and "Hell or High Water", which when put together, form a series. In the video for "Choke", the band storms into a record company's building with weapons and kills all of the people inside. In the video for "Don't Hate", word spreads that the band is wanted for murder. When the police arrive at the band's hideout, a chase scene ensues and the band is cornered in a multi-floor parking lot by two officers. In the video for "Hell or High Water", the band is shown arguing with the police officers before one of them pulls a gun out of his pocket. In retaliation, the officers gun down every member of the band and kill them. The band states the moral of the story is that violence is never a solution because it will always come back at you. These music videos were shot by Robby Starbuck.
The band supported the release of the EP with a small US headlining tour in September 2010, with support slots from The Sleeping and The Reason. (wiki)
