For the most part, "horror rock" has become synonymous with a bunch of ghoulish-looking dudes cranking out high-decibel heavy metal. It seems like the whole goth movement of the '80s is pretty darn neglected -- but it did spawn its fair amount of horror movie buffs who decided to pick up instruments and follow a more new wave-ish path instead. And it's this style that the Los Angeles based duo Creature Feature are most closely aligned with. But as evidenced by their 2007 full-length debut, The Greatest Show Unearthed, the group (which features members Curtis Rx and Erik X) has a bit of a Danny Elfman/Tim Burton thing going on as well. Slithering synths, bopping beats, highly processed guitars, and vocals that come off as almost a nerdy-sounding Marilyn Manson are on display throughout -- especially on the title track, "Six Foot Deep," and "A Gorey Demise." Add to it (expectedly) horror movie-esque lyrics, and you have a fine soundtrack for your next Halloween party.
