Pulse专辑介绍 If there is any testament to how hugely popular Between the Buried and Me is, it's the fact that even after many lineup changes and trials, it's the fact that only two original members remain standing of the band today: Paul and Tommy. If anything, it's been moreso Tommy that has kept the creative juices in the band going for all their wacky time signature trickery and various interludes/ideas. Who would have thought to include a short acoustic rock song in the middle of so much metalcore? But it struck gold. With the announcement of a new BTBAM album )more like recording it!), Tommy made up some new work and decided to make ANOTHER solo project to release it. It wouldn't work with BTBAM, and besides, didn't one of his last projects fail anyways? However, this is another step in the right direction. In fact, it succeeds far beyond the mark. The first thing Tommy does is have an apparently no-nonsense attitude and just decide to create emotionally soaring songs. This is why you rarely hear him scream (although Catch & Release was a bit scary to hear). Insteads he decides to experiment with many ideas. "But TL, the genres page says he mixed Progressive Rock with Acoustic Rock with Electronic with Avant-Garde and HOLY FUCK WHAT'S GOING ON". Simple; he makes everything sound as tasteful as possible while rarely overdoing it. Yeah I rolled my eyes during Hamilton Anxiety Scale a couple of times, especially during that one fill that's so obviously from The Silent Circus, but it's a very good song otherwise. The album rarely falls flat of what it's supposed to do. The songwriting has always been a high point of BTBAM, and that has been carried over very carefully into this album. Of course, it's not without its flaws. For example, during the mentioned Hamilton Anxiety Scale, at a couple of parts, Tommy overdoes all the epicness by throwing in an electronic orchestra of synths, 1 or 2 acoustic guitars, a few electric distorted guitars, Tommy singing in a high-pitched voice, Tommy screaming, the drums going crazy, the bass going on with its nice little melody... it really is too much to absorb. If it wasn't for Scared, the next track on the album, to calm you down, I think it would have killed you. And sometimes the lyrics get a bit too silly for their own good, totally destroying some of the seriousness the music implies. Is there anything bad about the album though as a whole? No. Those are only minor complaints in a 45 minute epic. It may not be up to par to Colors, but honestly, we shouldn't compare anything to a higher standard and just enjoy the music. And yes, there's almost no screaming.
