Mirror of Vibrations专辑介绍 This is the debut album for the Egyptian oriental black metal band, ODIOUS. Just knowing that there is a band from this region made it to this extent, and came out with a full album with a record label, is a shocking fact in itself. The album has a great artwork concept, using some pharaoh icons to make the album feel more "oriental". The artwork is very much related to the music, which is pretty oriental and harsh at the same time.

The album opens up with the welcoming act of "Silver Sea". Silver sea is a simple, yet too emotional instrumental introductory track featuring an oriental instrument called Oud. Oud is a pear-shaped, stringed instrument, like the guitar but it is way more eastern in sound. As soon as this track ends, and you are left with a feeling of peace which is blown away by "Poems hidden on black walls".

The track has a nice intro of a distant eastern feast, then the harsh part begins with no warnings and you are left in dismay. The music is very instrumental and vivid, the guitars sound very crunchy and the keyboards are very distinguishable throughout the track, well actually throughout the whole album to be exact. Oriental riffs and solos come and go on this track, leaving you just waiting for more, especially the part where the tabla (An eastern percussion instrument) emerges.

"Deaf and blind witness" starts off a nice keyboard intro, but in a fraction of a second you're taken into the depth of this song, don't have a wrong interpretation of what I said, this isn't a shallow track at all, it's just a very comprehensible one. All oriental elements are still there and they come by every now and then. At around 2 minutes, the vocal line is edited in a nice way, not too long though, this is good, it just gave you some of it and didn't use more cause it would've ruined the whole track, it's a nice idea after all.

"For the unknown is horrid" starts out with a great oriental riff, the first time I listened to it, before the album release it just got stuck on my mind till I got my copy of this album, it has a simple melody but very attractive and vivid. This track is considered the first highlight of this album, capturing Odious at their prime and best musical moments. There is so much to say about this track alone which can take me forever to write, but the most you can get out of this track is the guitar solos all around it. There is exactly 1 minutes and 12 seconds as a clean oriental outro for this specific track which makes it way more special than any other track on this album, the outro in itself is a great piece of music. The last part of the outro is amazing, which only lasts for few seconds, it has 2 keyboards overlaying each other. I find myself sometimes going to this track and just skipping through it to achieve this amazing outro!

Comes up next the complex "Invitation to chaotic revelation". This is the most "black metal" track throughout the whole album, very western melodies and haunting keyboard notes. Rhythm guitar is doing a great job there, taking you from a melody to another and playing so harsh as if there is no tomorrow. For all these people who liked the oriental moments from the tracks before this, don't worry, you still get your fix here too, just not as much as others, but it is still strongly present. Ending this track with a great guitar solo, it couldn't get any better in my point of view.

My favorite track then comes out, "Smile in vacuum warnings" starts out with a stunning solo and great drums, then melody just turns around and the vocal emerges. This track is very progressive, taking you from a melody to another and you won't even feel this transition, just listening to the simple oriental notes with the drums blasting off leaves you in pure awe. This is the most anticipated track, while all others are still great, but this one stands on a different ground, making it shine and is a great addition to this album, making it very worthy to own.

"Split punishment" is a keyboard driven track, which means keyboard is the main instrument there and all the other instruments follow, and back to the electronized vocals, this track reminds me of "Deaf and blind witness" while both are very different, a lot of elements are shared. Nice keyboard solos by the end of this track, so make sure to keep your ears open to enrich your senses.

"Upon the broken wing" emerges. Everyone take cover. This is the most oriental track of all, and very atmospheric as well with haunting keyboards melodies on the background. The drummer is also doing a great job here to keep on track and lead the other instruments behind. The oriental part starting at 3:48 throughout 4:40 is just amazing. This part perfectly fits in this track and makes it sound like a bliss.

It couldn't be any better when closing this album with the soothing keyboard "Dilemma". a great keyboard piece which just clicks with the rest of this masterpiece.

All in all, Mirror of Vibrations is not just another album; it is considered as a milestone for the oriental metal scene in general, using extremely oriental passages throughout a black metal album is not as easy as anyone might think. Black metal is known to be the most extreme genre of music, so adding to that, the complexity of oriental music and its composing, this is not an easy task for anyone to take.

Lyrics is very dark yet understandable, unlike many bands who just use some unknown words out of an old dictionary, you actually come out with something from this album. The lyrical theme is driven from philosophy and sorrow.

Mirror of vibrations stands out when compared to other oriental metal albums, like the latest release from Melechesh , Emissaries, by its dedication to the oriental part, don't get me wrong, Melechesh is known for their great black metal albums and still stunning oriental additions, Emissaries was a breath-taking album, but Mirror of Vibrations is way more richer in oriental music. Also compared to Orphaned land's Mabool, Mirror of Vibrations still stands out with its aggression. Mabool is a very oriental album, sounding almost perfect, but they took it way too much with oriental elements that the music itself doesn't feel so "metal". Mirror of Vibrations isn't as black as Melechesh's Emissaries or as mellow as Orphaned Land's Mabool. It is a balanced equation between the two forces. Be prepared to listen to something different.
