Soundtrack for a Generation is a somewhat familiar sound for the indie pop connoisseur. Mixing the availability of pop-punk and the tenderness and vulnerability of emo-pop, Student Rick is sure to be a big success with the average teenage fan. The harmonies and melodies in the vocals and music were tops and the songs were really catchy and not in an annoying manner. Lyrically, however, the album was an abysmal letdown. All the songs seemed to follow the rough outline of "girl, don't leave me" or "I cried when you left me" or something to that extent. The one exception was "little girl, don't cry, your daddy is coming back soon." It was as though the lyrics were written by a 12 year old just experiencing love for the first time. Unfortunately, it is with this sophomoric attempt at lyric writing and lack of style that Soundtrack for a Generation ends up failing overall.
