Neonate is a hardcore punk band from the south of Joburg, unoficially started in November 2006 by guitarist / singer / songwriter, Jason Dreyer. Although only a 3 piece, they deliver a thick full sound that is distinctive from most three member bands. Fast grating guitar distortion and finger-style bass lines, together with frenzied drumming and dirty vocals has earned Neonate comparisons to bands such as Rancid, Sex Pistols, Motorhead, The Exploited, and Misfits. Issues of social politics, religious corruption, general angst and disillusionment with modern dont-ask-too-many-questions pop-culture, are the predominant themes in Neonate’s songs. The band was actively gigging from early 2007, quickly racking up shows with the likes of The Vendetta Cartel, Swivelfoot, and Sniper On The Roof. After some band politics and member changes Neonate continued gigging in and around Johannesburg until early 2009 when a hiatus was called for. As a band we strive toward musical honesty and originality, with punk DIY ethics. Somewhere there is a 14 song demo floating around, yet to be released. Neonate is currently in search of new members to revive its energy, punk attitude and ethics. ..
