Efêmera专辑介绍
"Side A is brilliant, and Side B is brilliant as well..."
Joke aside, Tulipa's first album is indeed quite brilliant. I know some people may not agree with it, but I often make the same comment when I come across such a great album that's not from our Anglocentric world — if it was sung in English, critics would go bonkers about it. Maybe not, we'll never know, but that's not the point. The point is that Efêmera is a little masterpiece, a very special album that has such a universal appeal that I feel the need to make my point even clearer: if you like great pop music, no matter where it comes from or in which language it is sung, get this now. It may not sound more than just pleasant on first listen, but you'll soon realize that it's an amazingly consistent set of songs, based on simple yet incredibly effective ingredients. Exquisite melodies, minimalistic arrangements, tight musicianship (goddamn that rhythm section!) and of course Tulipa's unique voice, both intensely idiosyncratic and addictive. It took me quite a few listens to get to this obvious comparison, but Efêmera is now pretty much a Brazilian equivalent of Talking Heads: 77 to my ears.
