Live At 93 Feet East Club, 16/01/2008. Radiohead perfomed their first gig of 2008 on January 16 in London, playing their new No. 1-selling album "In Rainbows" in its entirety.
Radiohead did an unusual number of well-recorded promotional gigs for In Rainbows (something that quite clearly belies the seemingly casual “pay what you want” method they used for the initial release of the album) and it’s difficult to choose between them for the fan who doesn’t care to waste his time with them all. What makes the 93 Feet East gig stand out from the rest (especially the one reviewed immediately below) is the unique schtick of performing every single song from In Rainbows in order.
It could have just been a lame gimmick if not for the fact that several of these cuts are the definitive performances of their songs: you will search far and wide to find better versions of “Faust Arp” (a song which often misfired live due to Thom’s shaky voice), “Jigsaw Falling Into Place,” and (this one is surprising) “Reckoner.” What is particularly lovely about this “Reckoner” is that it’s one of the few times where Ed is singing the backing vocals that sweeten the sadness of the album version so much. In addition, there’s a crucial acoustic performance of “Up On The Ladder,” the last-ever version to date.
