How to play (this is a rough guide... please
experiment and play how it is most comfortable for
you):
**Note: Measures 1-29 are meant to be tapped with
the left and right hand. The left hand should be
positioned over the neck instead of under.**
(Numbers to the left represent specific measures.
Anything stated in regard to a specific measure applies
to all similar measures.)
1) The harmonics marked with a "T" are slapped
harmonics. The rest of this measure is the basic
tapping pattern that is performed by the left hand .
4) The last 5 on string 4 is also tapped with the left
hand.
5) The open notes are plucked with the right hand.
8) The last two open notes on string 3 are meant to be
plucked with the thumb of the right hand even though
they are technically part of the "bassline" that the left
hand taps out. Alternatively, they can be tapped as 5
on string 5 with the left hand.
9) This measure marks the beginning of the right hand
tapping.
11) Any open notes not part of the left hand tapping
pattern from this point on (such as the last open note
on the first string in this measure) should be plucked
with the right hand. Whatever finger is most
comfortable to pluck with may vary during the course
of the tapping section.
29) During the small break, place your hand
under the neck in the traditional position. Though
there is a bit of left hand tapping in this section, the
majority is played normally. XXX marks thumbslaps.
33) The artificial harmonics in this measure are fretted
at the 3rd fret and are plucked with the right hand at
the 15th node.
34) The percussion in this measure can be done by
tapping the 6th string on the third fret while
simultaneously hitting the soundboard either above or
below the strings with the thumb or the
index/ring/pinky of the right hand. Alternatively, you
can thumbslap a string that is not being tapped.
38) The end of this measure is tapped with the left
hand while simultaneously performing a thumbslap
with the right.
39-40) The first beat on these two measures uses the
same technique as measure 34.
49) Da Coda - ignore this the first time you get to this
measure. The second time you get to this measure,
complete the measure and go straight to the Coda sign
(measure 55)
54) D.C. al Coda - complete this measure and start
from the beginning again. During the small break,
reposistion your left hand over the neck.
