List-en-ing to your id-le talk Smoke ris-ing to the ceil-ing. The words just seem to float on by, May-be you've had the feel-ing. Then look-ing in-to my emp- ty glass I no-ticed the bar clock was ten min-utes fast. My beer was gone and my mon-ey spent And I think it's a-bout time that I went. I went walk-ing a-long the main road, How can they call it High Street? I said, 'He-llo' to+a face I know But he had some-one to meet. Then I noticed that the sea was coming in. I al-most felt like taking a swim But+the sea gets wild, So I've+been told, And an-y-way it was much too cold. I butt-oned my coat up to my chin, Went walking a-long the sand. I thought I heard the mer-maid sing+To+the sound of a big brass band. A sea-gull off-ered me a ride And so as not to hurt his pride I said I was-n't go-ing far And I let him ca-rry my guit-ar. Then a long came my mer-maid,+Said, 'Sing+me a song+And+I'll stop the band from play-ing.' I was pleased and+I played with ease+To+the mer-maid's gent-le sway-ing. I must have stayed there for+an hour or two. The sea-gull said he'd have to go And+the mer-maid said that she'd like+to hear more But she left me stand-ing on the shore. The sun was bath-ing in the sea Right on the wat-er line. I shout-ed good-bye But he did-n't re-ply I know he had no time. Ev-en my foot-prints had dis-app-eared And as for the road I steered Out from the sea there come a sigh I think my mer-maid said, 'Good-bye'. And I'm lis-ten-ing to your id-le talk Smoke ris-ing to the ceil-ing. And I'm watch-ing the words go float-ing by May-be you've had the feel-ing. May-be you've had the feel-ing.
