Malaguena is one of the varieties of fandango, whose
birthplace, as the name implies, is the city of Malaga.
Many famous classical composers drew their
inspiration from its rich and emotional melody. The
tonality is in A minor, the mood is E-Phrygian. In some
of the verses, the tonality changes to C major. the
rhythm is usually free, but in the case of
accompaniment to the dancers, the guitarist must
strictly adhere to the established size and pace. The
following example is a typical malagen dance. It is
played in the amount of 3/4 (three beats in tact with an
emphasis on the 1st beat).
