Early era video game music is very interesting. Since the systems weren't capable of playing chords, they had to come up with other ways to make the music sound good. So there you have these fast arpeggios also found a lot in modern rock and metal. Most of this song was probably not composed using a guitar though as it often goes much higher than the guitar's range (possibly also a sound limitation issue, low pitch isn't supported)
I've kept this tab very basic and close to the real game (except things like seagull/shore/effects, not a GP6 thing), you can do a lot more with the notes. Put arpeggios together and there you have your synth/violin/acoustic chords. It's not your standard pop/rock chords though.
